Tema Port Expansion Project (Terminal 3)
Capturing the sheer scale and complex engineering precision of a multi-billion dollar deepwater container terminal expansion in Tema without disrupting active marine operations, heavy crane installations, or round-the-clock breakwater construction.
Executed systematic aerial flight paths and high-definition ground captures documenting ship-to-shore gantry cranes, container yard automation, and maritime berthing operations, cut into a cinematic industrial showcase.
Produced an authoritative visual record of West Africa's most advanced transshipment hub, utilized for international investor reporting, government presentations, and maritime industry showcases.
The Context & Challenge
Meridian Port Services (MPS) undertook the construction of Terminal 3 at the Port of Tema—one of the largest deepwater container port engineering feats in sub-Saharan Africa. The $1.5 billion project involved reclaiming 120 hectares of land from the Gulf of Guinea, erecting a 3.5-kilometer breakwater, dredging access channels to 16 meters, and installing massive automated ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes capable of servicing the world’s largest container vessels. MPS required documentation that matched this titanic engineering achievement.
Strategic Approach & Execution
Filming within a high-security international maritime facility requires strict operational discipline and safety protocol adherence. SA deployed heavy-lift drone rigs and telephoto cinema packages to film around operational maritime perimeters, hazardous construction zones, and berthing container ships. We synchronized our shooting schedule with critical engineering milestones: crane roll-ons from heavy-lift transport vessels, underwater caisson positioning, and the maiden berthing trials of ultra-large container ships.
The Deliverables & Craft
Our team generated a comprehensive suite of high-definition industrial media assets. Aerial cinematography showcased the geometric beauty of the container yard layouts and the breakwater slicing through open ocean swells. Ground footage emphasized scale—placing technicians and dockworkers against towering 70-meter cranes. The edit was paced with industrial precision, using dynamic sound design that highlighted the mechanical hum of electrical gantries and ocean surf.
Outcomes & Long-Term Impact
The final documentary package became MPS’s principal visual benchmark for global trade delegations, international maritime conferences, and shareholder reporting across APM Terminals and Bolloré Transport & Logistics. It clearly established Tema as West Africa’s preeminent maritime gateway and container transshipment hub.
