Faast Mmori Indigenous FMCG Packaging & Digital Platform
Local whole-grain cereal porridge (Mmori) was perceived as a traditional roadside staple rather than an upscale, nutritious convenience product for health-conscious modern households.
Crafted a vibrant, modern African packaging visual identity with clear nutritional hierarchy, bold typography, airtight moisture-barrier pouch graphics, and an interactive e-commerce brand website.
Successfully placed Faast Mmori onto major supermarket shelves throughout Accra and Kumasi, demonstrating how indigenous grain products can capture premium market share.
The Context & Challenge
Sahel Grains Limited set out to revolutionize indigenous Ghanaian breakfast foods through ‘Faast Mmori’—a ready-to-cook, pre-cooked whole grain cereal made from locally sourced millet, sorghum, and maize. While traditional Mmori has deep cultural roots across West Africa, mass retail markets were dominated by imported oat and wheat brands. Sahel Grains needed a complete brand creation that could compete head-to-head with international FMCG giants on supermarket shelves.
Strategic Approach & Execution
SA provided comprehensive brand development. We started by dissecting consumer perceptions: modern urban consumers wanted the nutritional superiority and familiar taste of traditional grains, but demanded hygiene, quick preparation, and premium packaging. We created an energetic visual identity featuring warm harvest gold, rich terracotta, and deep forest green, accented by custom geometric crop patterns inspired by Sahelian textile weaving.
The Deliverables & Craft
Our team designed the complete retail packaging system for multiple package formats and variants, incorporating clean nutritional tables, cooking instructions, and FDA registration credentials. Beyond physical packaging, SA designed and built the official Faast Mmori e-commerce-ready brand website, complete with recipe guides, retailer locators, and branded social media launch campaigns.
Outcomes & Long-Term Impact
Faast Mmori successfully secured placement in tier-one supermarket chains across Ghana including Shoprite, Palace, and Melcom. The packaging stood out immediately on shelves, proving that indigenous grain products can command premium retail pricing when backed by sophisticated industrial design and cohesive digital storytelling.
