1D1F Ekumfi Pineapple Processing Facility
Documenting a vast agro-industrial initiative spanning thousands of outgrower farming acres across Central and Western Ghana, communicating both grassroots agrarian empowerment and modern high-tech fruit processing to national and international stakeholders.
Deployed a dedicated documentary unit over a one-month production schedule. Combined low-altitude drone cinematography across pineapple plantations with cinematic ground-level profiles of local outgrower farmers, engineers, and factory construction teams.
Delivered a compelling national broadcast infomercial and stakeholder film that served as the primary visual benchmark for Ghana's One District One Factory (1D1F) program, validating community buy-in and industrial viability.
The Context & Challenge
The One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative launched by the Government of Ghana aimed to revitalize rural agro-processing economies. Ekumfi Fruits & Juices was chosen as the inaugural flagship project. Spanning several farming communities in the Central and Western regions, the venture had to mobilize thousands of smallholder pineapple outgrower farmers, assure community landholders, and demonstrate that modern agro-processing facilities could thrive beyond the industrial enclaves of Tema and Accra. SA was commissioned to capture this monumental transformation from raw earth to industrial commissioning.
Strategic Approach & Execution
We approached the assignment with an embedded documentary mindset rather than a surface corporate promotional lens. Over a rigorous four-week production schedule, the SA production team lived on location in Ekumfi. We captured sunrise harvesting cycles, soil preparation, mechanized planting, and the intricate assembly of stainless steel cold-press juicing lines. Cinematographer Selom Afatsiawo utilized low-altitude aerial drone flights to map the vast scale of the outgrower farming grid against the coastal landscape, contrasting panoramic agricultural vistas with intimate, high-frame-rate portraits of farmers whose livelihoods were directly tied to the factory’s success.
The Deliverables & Craft
The deliverables comprised a comprehensive 4K broadcast infomercial, short-form digital clips for social distribution, and an archival visual documentation package. The color grade leaned into natural earth tones and lush vegetation greens, paired with an evocative orchestral score blended with traditional percussion. Every edit honored the physical labor of the field workers alongside the clinical engineering precision of the juice processing machinery, delivering a balanced narrative that avoided political grandstanding in favor of tangible human impact.
Outcomes & Long-Term Impact
The resulting film became the visual centerpiece for the nationwide rollout of the 1D1F industrialization policy, screened across major Ghanaian broadcast networks, government investment summits, and international trade forums. It provided unquestioned visual proof of completed infrastructure and community integration, setting an enduring standard for how state-sponsored industrial developments are documented and communicated across West Africa.
